及當西還，並會昌門，陸勣、顧劭、全琮皆往。 As he prepared to go west again, a gathering formed at Chang Gate: Lu Ji, Gu Shao, and Quan Cong all attended.

統曰：「陸子可謂駑馬有逸足之力，顧子可謂駑牛能負重致遠也。」 Tong remarked, “Lu Ji is like a nag that still has a burst of speed; Gu Shao is like a draft ox that can haul a heavy load a long way.”

劭就統宿，語，因問：「卿名知人，吾與卿孰愈？」 Gu Shao lodged with Tong that night and in conversation asked, “You are celebrated as a judge of men—which of us ranks higher?”

劭安其言而親之。〉 Shao accepted this and grew intimate with him.〉

績、劭謂統曰：「使天下太平，當與卿共料四海之士。」 Lu Ji and Gu Shao told Tong, “Should the realm ever know peace, we would rank the talent of the four quarters at your side.”

臣松之以為陳群子泰，陸遜子抗，傳皆以子系父，不別載姓，及王肅、杜恕、張承、顧劭之流，莫不皆然，惟董允獨否，未詳其意，當以允名位優重，事蹟逾父故邪？ Pei Songzhi notes that for Chen Qun's son Tai, Lu Xun's son Kang, and others, the biographies all attach sons under fathers without separately recording the surname; Wang Su, Du Shu, Zhang Cheng, Gu Shao, and the like all follow this pattern—only Dong Yun does not. The reason is unclear; perhaps because Yun's name and rank were exalted and his achievements surpassed his father's?
