太后立帝姊魯元公主女為皇后，無子，取後宮美人子名之以為太子。 The Empress Dowager made the daughter of the emperor's elder sister, Princess Luyuan, the empress. Since the empress had no son, the Empress Dowager took a son born to one of the palace beauties, gave him a name, and made him crown prince.

惠帝崩，太子立為皇帝，年幼，太后臨朝稱制，大赦天下。 When Emperor Hui died, the crown prince was installed as emperor. Because he was young, the Empress Dowager presided over court and issued edicts on his behalf, granting a general amnesty throughout the realm.

四年夏，少帝自知非皇后子，出怨言，皇太后幽之永巷。 In summer of the fourth year, the young emperor realized he was not the empress's son and spoke words of resentment. The Empress Dowager confined him in the Everlasting Lane.
