孝文在代時，前后有三男，及竇太后得幸，前后死，及三子更死，故孝景得立。 While Emperor Wen was still in Dai, he had three sons by his former consort. After Lady Dou won his favor, that consort died, and the three sons died in turn as well. This was how Emperor Jing came to be named heir.
