曄弟廣淵，時為司徒祭酒，其日在直。 Ye's younger brother Guangyuan was then serving as Libationer to the Minister over the Masses and was on duty that day.

曄與司徒左西屬王深宿廣淵許，夜中酣飲，開北牖聽挽歌為樂。 Ye and Wang Shen, Left Western Subordinate to the Minister over the Masses, spent the night at Guangyuan's quarters. Late that night, deep in drink, they opened the northern window and amused themselves by listening to the funeral dirges.
