樞密承旨段徊奏曰：「臣見本朝時或遇歲時災歉，國費不足，天子將求經濟之要，則內出朱書御劄，以訪宰臣，請陛下依此故事行之。」 Privy bearer Duan Huai reported, "In our dynasty when famine emptied the treasury the Son of Heaven would take out a vermilion imperial note to ask the chancellors—we ask Your Majesty to follow that precedent."

初，同光季年，鏐上疏密求玉冊、金印，郭崇韜進議以為不可，而樞密承旨段徊受其重賂，讚成其事，莊宗即允其請，至是故有貢謝。 Late in Tongguang Qian Liu had secretly asked for a jade book and seal; Guo Chongtao opposed it, but Duan Hui of the Privy Council took heavy bribes and pushed it through; Zhuangzong granted it—hence the thank-offering.

時樞密承旨段徊當權任事，以憲從龍舊望，不欲憲在朝廷。 At that time Duan Huai, chief drafter of the Bureau of Military Affairs, held power and managed affairs; because of Xian's old prestige as a follower of the dragon, he did not want Xian at court.

會孟知祥鎮蜀川，選北京留守，徊揚言曰：「北門，國家根本，非重德不可輕授； When Meng Zhixiang was posted to govern Shu, the northern capital intendant was to be chosen. Huai proclaimed publicly, "The northern gate is the root of the state; without great virtue it cannot be lightly conferred;

趨時者因附徊勢，巧中傷之。 Those who courted the times attached themselves to Huai's power and craftily slandered him.

孔謙、段徊白崇韜曰：「邦計雖重，在侍中眼前，但得一人為使即可。 Kong Qian and Duan Huai told Chongtao, "State revenue is weighty, but it is before the Vice Director's eyes—one man as commissioner will suffice.
