文宗震悼，贈太師、大學士，入祀賢良祠，賜金五千兩治喪，遣近臣慰視其父堮，擢其子檢討翰為庶子，孫三人並賜舉人。 Xianfeng was stricken: he posthumously made Shoutian grand tutor and grand secretary, enshrined him in the Shrine of Worthies, gave five thousand taels for the funeral, sent a close minister to console his father E, promoted his son Han from reviewer to chamberlain of the heir apparent, and granted all three grandsons the juren degree.

子，由翰林院編修累官戶部侍郎，督辦山東團練。 His son, rising from Hanlin compiler to vice minister of revenue, supervised militia training in Shandong.

翰，字繼園。 His son Han, courtesy name Jiyuan.

翰勇於任事，甚被倚任。 Han was bold in action and deeply trusted.

御史董元醇疏請兩宮皇太后垂簾聽政，載垣、端華、肅順等持不可，翰附之，抗言甚力，遂黜元醇議。 Censor Dong Yuanchun asked that the two empress dowagers rule from behind a screen; Zaiyuan, Duanhua, Sushun, and their party objected; Han sided with them and argued fiercely, and Dong's proposal was set aside.

既而載垣等以竊奪政柄被罪，翰連坐，議革職戍新疆，詔原之，褫職，免其發遣。 When Zaiyuan and the others fell for usurping power, Han was implicated and sentenced to dismissal and banishment to Xinjiang; an edict pardoned him—he lost office but was spared exile.

十一年七月，上疾大漸，召肅順及御前大臣載垣、端華、景壽，軍機大臣穆廕、匡源、杜翰、焦祐瀛入見，受顧命，上已不能禦硃筆，諸臣承寫焉。 In the seventh month of 1861 the emperor's illness turned grave. Sushun, the imperial chamberlains Zaiyuan, Duanhua, and Jingshou, and the grand councilors Mu Yin, Kuang Yuan, Du Han, and Jiao Youying were called in to receive his deathbed charge. He could no longer hold the vermilion brush himself, and the ministers wrote at his dictation.

十月，肅順、載垣、端華等伏法，穆廕與匡源、杜翰、焦祐瀛並罷直軍機，議罪。 In the tenth month, after Sushun, Zaiyuan, and Duanhua were executed, Mu Yin with Kuang Yuan, Du Han, and Jiao Youying were all dismissed from the Grand Council and brought to trial.

匡源、杜翰、焦祐瀛皆革職，免其遣戍。」 Kuang Yuan, Du Han, and Jiao Youying were all dismissed and spared exile."
