節度使崔群慮其旋軍難制，密表請追赴闕，授以他官。 Military Governor Cui Qun feared Zhixing would be hard to control once his troops returned, and secretly memorialized the court to recall him and give him another post.

智興先期入境，群頗憂疑，令府僚迎勞，且誡之曰：「兵士悉輸甲仗於外，副使以十騎入城。」 Zhixing entered the circuit ahead of his troops. Anxious and suspicious, Qun sent staff to welcome him and instructed: "All soldiers must deposit their arms outside the city; the vice governor may enter with only ten mounted escorts."

智興既首處，賓僚聞之心動，率歸師斬關而入，殺軍中異己者十余人。 Zhixing had already taken the lead. When his staff heard Qun's instructions, they were stirred; they led the returning troops, forced the gates, and killed more than ten men in the army who were not of their faction.

然後詣衛謝群曰：「此軍情也。」 He then went to headquarters and apologized to Qun: "This was the will of the troops."

群治裝赴闕，智興遣兵士援送群家屬至埇橋。 Qun packed to leave for the capital; Zhixing sent troops to escort Qun's family as far as Yongqiao.

屬朝廷用崔群為武寧節度使，群畏智興難制，密請追還京師，未報。 The court had just appointed Cui Qun military governor of Wuning; fearing Zhixing would be hard to control, Qun secretly asked that he be recalled to the capital, but no answer had yet come.

智興還，群遣寮屬迎之，令士季甲而入。 When Zhixing returned, Qun sent staff to welcome him and ordered the troops to enter in full armor.

智興心不悅，因勒兵斬關入，殺異己者十餘輩，然後謁群謝曰：「此軍情也！」 Zhixing took offense, rallied his troops, forced the gate, and killed more than ten rivals before calling on Qun to apologize: "That was the army's doing!"

群乃治裝去，智興以兵衛送還朝； Qun packed to leave; Zhixing escorted him back to the capital under armed guard;
