而平王之後曰任後，任後甚有寵於襄。 King Xiang’s chief consort was Lady Ren, and she held his affection completely.

任后聞而欲得之。 Consort Ren heard of it and wanted it for herself.

任后絕欲得之。 Consort Ren was desperate to obtain it.

王襄直使人開府取尊賜任后，又王及母陳太后事李太后多不順。 King Xiang at once sent men to open the treasury, take the vessel, and give it to Consort Ren; and both the king and his mother Empress Dowager Chen treated Empress Dowager Li with much disrespect.

李太后亦私與食官長及郎尹霸等姦亂，王與任后以此使人風止李太后。 Empress Dowager Li also carried on secretly with the chief of the food office and Gentleman Yin Ba and others; the king and Consort Ren used this to send men to warn Empress Dowager Li into silence.

病時，任后未嘗請疾； While she was ill, Consort Ren never once asked after her;

薨，又不侍喪。 when she died, Consort Ren did not attend the mourning.

天子曰：「首惡失道，任後也。 The emperor said, “The principal evildoer who lost the Way was Consort Ren.

削梁王五縣，奪王太后湯沐成陽邑，梟任後首於市，中郎胡等皆伏誅。 Five counties were cut from Liang, the dowager’s bathing-town income at Chengyang was seized, Consort Ren’s head was spiked in the marketplace, and Palace Gentleman Hu and his accomplices went to the block.
