溫詔賜卹，稱其「清正持躬，精詳謀國，忠純亮直，誠懇公明，為國家股肱心膂之臣」，贈太傅，予騎都尉世職，入祀賢良祠，賜銀三千兩治喪，遣貝勒載澂奠醊，諡文忠，歸葬盛京，命將軍崇實往賜祭。 A warm edict granted condolences, praising him as "upright in conduct, meticulous in statecraft, loyal and pure, bright and straightforward, sincere and fair—a pillar of the realm." He was posthumously made Grand Tutor, granted a hereditary Captain of Cavalry, inducted into the Shrine of Worthies, given three thousand taels for the funeral, and libations were offered by Prince Zaicheng. He received the posthumous title Wenzhong, was buried in Mukden, and General Chong Shi was sent to perform the sacrifice.

其時教禍棘，四川總督駱秉章夙持正，外人以將軍崇實易與，遇事輒就決之，數興大獄，至殺平民二百人，勿之問。 Missionary troubles were acute; Sichuan Governor-General Luo Bingzhang was upright, but foreigners found General Chongshi pliable and repeatedly sought his rulings, opening major cases and killing two hundred civilians without consequence.

六年，四川總督崇實命率師入黔。 In the sixth year Sichuan Governor Chongshi ordered him to lead troops into Guizhou.

黔患貧瘠，崇實先問以理財策，炯曰：「理財莫若節用，節用莫若裁勇，裁勇莫若援黔。」 Guizhou was poor and exhausted. Chongshi first asked his advice on finances. Jiong said: 'The best way to manage finances is to cut spending; the best way to cut spending is to trim the braves; and the best way to trim the braves is to pacify Guizhou.'

崇實然其言，遂以軍事屬之。 Chongshi approved and placed the military campaign in his hands.
