陳顏，衛州汲縣人。 Chen Yan came from Ji County in Weizhou.

顏間關渡河，往省其父，因扶疾北歸。 Yan braved hardship to cross the river and visit his father, then helped him home to the north despite his illness.

顏詣郡請代父死，太守徐某哀之，不敢決，適帥臣至郡，以其狀白，帥曰：「此真孝子也。」 Yan went to the prefectural seat and asked to die in his father's stead. Prefect Xu was deeply moved but dared not decide the matter; when the circuit commissioner arrived, he reported the case, and the commissioner said, "This is a true filial son."
