秋，使護西域騎都尉甘延壽、副校尉陳湯撟發戊己校尉屯田吏士及西域胡兵攻郅支單于。 In autumn, Protector of the Western Regions and Cavalry Commandant Gan Yanshou and Vice Commandant Chen Tang were sent to mobilize the Wuji Commandant's garrison farming officials and soldiers, as well as Western Regions Hu troops, to attack Chanyu Zhizhi.

賜副校尉陳湯爵關內侯，黃金百斤。 Granted Vice Commandant Chen Tang the noble rank of Guannei Marquis and 100 catties of gold.

Book of Han, Chapter 69Volume 59: Zhang Tang · 3 passages

元帝初即位，詔列侯舉茂材，勃舉太官獻丞陳湯。 Soon after Emperor Yuan came to the throne, an edict ordered the ranked marquises to recommend men of outstanding talent. Zhang Bo recommended Chen Tang, assistant director of the imperial kitchen.

湯有罪，勃坐削戶二百，會薨，故賜謚曰繆侯。 When Tang was found guilty, Bo was implicated and lost two hundred households from his fief. He happened to die at the time and was therefore granted the posthumous title Marquis Miu.

後湯立功西域，世以勃為知人。 Later Chen Tang won merit in the Western Regions, and the age judged that Bo had known how to recognize talent.
