十一年，副蔡啓僔主順天鄕試，拔韓菼於遺巻中，明年魁天下，文體一變。 In year 11 he served as associate examiner with Cai Qipu for the Shuntian provincial exam and picked Han Tan out of the discarded papers; Han took first place nationwide the following year, and examination prose was transformed overnight.

坐副榜未取漢軍巻，與啓僔並鐫秩調用。 They were demoted and transferred for failing to admit any Han Army Banner papers on the supplementary list.
