掞就宮門階石上裂紙，以唾濡墨，奏言：「臣伏見宋仁宗為一代賢君，而晚年立儲猶豫，其時名臣如范鎮、包拯等，皆交章切諫，鬚髮為白。 On the palace steps Shan tore paper and wrote with saliva for ink. He said: "I observe that Song Renzong was a sage ruler, yet even he hesitated over the heir in his later years. Ministers such as Fan Zhen and Bao Zheng remonstrated in urgent memorial after memorial until their hair turned white.

明年，又劾江西巡撫馮汝騤謾欺狀，效宋臣包拯七上彈章，末復言：「是非不明，請將前後章奏明詔宣示，敕部平議。」 The next year he again impeached Feng Rukui, governor of Jiangxi, for deceit, following the Song official Bao Zheng in seven successive impeachments; at the end he again said: "Right and wrong are unclear; I beg that the earlier and later memorials be proclaimed by clear edict and the ministry ordered to judge fairly."

繶，樞密副使拯之子，早亡，惟一稚兒。 Ji was the son of Bao Zheng, Vice Commissioner of the Bureau of Military Affairs. He died young, leaving only one infant son.

拯夫婦意崔不能守也，使左右嚐其心。 Zheng and his wife doubted that Cui could remain faithful and sent attendants to test her resolve.

崔蓬垢涕泣出堂下，見拯曰：“翁，天下名公也。 Cui came out below the hall, disheveled and weeping, and said to Zheng: 'Father-in-law, you are a renowned statesman of the realm.

今舅歿，姑老矣，將舍而去乎？” Now my father-in-law is dead and my mother-in-law is old—shall I abandon her and go?"
